Mcafee total protection whs 2011

Made a few calls to McAfee. They did not have the answers and I seemed to know more about what was going on than the tech on the phone. I sent a log file and was called back shortly thereafter. The indication was that this issue was spreading and they were working on a solution. I waited 5 days then uninstalled as the database was getting old and made me nervous about protection. I installed Avast on the WHS and 2 of my client machines.

To date I am very impressed with Avast, the way it functions on both the WHS and the clients and like the ability to control the clients from the server. I will forgo the payment already made to McAfee and instead become a customer of Avast.

That's true for any solution. Page 1 of 2. Go to page 1 , 2 Next. Previous topic Next topic. I would have to agree. I was going to wait until my trial service was up before I bought a replacement, but this has happened again, and this time when I rdp into my server and looked at services, McAfee Total protection was still up.

But when I restarted the application, the red "critical" light disappeared. So I don't think I'm going to wait. I have to agree with the McAfee remarks and again confirms my feelings of not owning any future products from them You can't tell me that software engineers can't figure this out and thier tech support is way to vast for me to even tolerate anymore!

Don't forget F-Secure, folks. If all files you 'acquire' are first downloaded to a PC running AV before uploaded to your server then possibly server-based AV could be skipped. I think its all about the 'comfort level' you have with the technology and the users of your network. Just some random thoughts and opinions.

Sounds like good advice. I would like to set up RSS feeds to automatically download some podcasts to my server. For example, I regularly watch Tekzilla and Cranky Geeks. But I have not figured out how to set up my server for RSS feeds. It is probably easy to do.

I would like to get an idea of how hard it is to actually get a virus on a WHS if the client computers are running an anti virus. I would like to also get some data on if an infection came through the internet connection or was because of a lack of security procedures on the owners part. My Avast shows 3 files in the virus chest. That would be the first day that Antivirus was installed and used on my MMS.

The scan history shows no infections ever so I 'm thinking these are left over fron installation. Posted: Thu Aug 14, pm. No virus found on my MSS. I have asked the same question on another thread some weeks earlier, arguing that if you don't browse Internet inside your MSS, that all your machines are protected, and the MSS is behind them and the router, well, chances to get a virus should be very low.

Some anwers to the thread but no one challenged the hypothesis. Btw, I run McAfee without any performance problem. Sure 2GB of memory and maybe a faster processor does help. Posted: Fri Aug 22, am. Registry modifications are irreversible and could cause system failure if done incorrectly. Before proceeding, McAfee strongly recommends backing up your registry and understanding the restore process.

I have always studiously avoided using the McAfee products but, based on comments from others and my experience in similar situations, I would make the following suggestions: -- Have you restarted the server? If not try that and then repeat that uninstall. Restart the server before and after. I am sure you will get other suggestions I uninstalled the add-in from the WHS console and the process completed successfully. I don't recall whether a restart was required or not. I would try reinstalling the software via the console and uninstalling it from there as well.

I would hope the reinstall would either overlay the current files and registry settings, or see them as evidence of a corrupted installation and attempt to repair it. Once it's reinstalled, you should be able to remove it cleanly via the add-in manager in the console. This prevents reinstalling using that method. This is likely caused by the uninstall from the control panel and it not removing all remnants for WHS.

I'm not sure how one might fix this. Using a somewhat similar situation involving My Movies, the solution required digging into the registry and deleting the entry causing it to continue to appear in WHS. Take careful notes of what you do so that you can recreate it if necessary as this is just a guess on my part. The solution involved a registry edit but in a different location that I recalled. It might lead you in the right direction to a solution.

To figure out which one, click on each and then click on Manufacturer in the right hand window until you find McAfee. It's still early here and my reading comprehension is impaired It should be possible to run the. If manual edits to the registry become required, then make copies early and often via file export.
